I offically have my new(to me) tank home.  Thank Jason!  It is a 40 gallon that will probably have a 30 gallon sump.  The lighting is one of those all in one units that has 4 T5's and one 150wt MH.  It has been awhile since I have had a tank and I think I forgot more than I remember.  My questions is:

What should I be running for color temp on this set up?  I will probably end up putting a few easy SPS near the top under the MH but it will be mostly LPS and softies...things that are frilly and girly :).  I was thinking 10K on the MH and 20K on the T5's.  That way I can have the T5's on 11am-11pm and the MH on from 1pm-9pm.  I am thinking this will give me a balance eye pleasing look.  I am thinkng correctly here?

I am in the process of cooking the rock that I got today.  Tomorrow I will be figuring out what I want for a stand or beefin up the one that I have.

A HUGE Thank-You to AC&C for all the great deals they gave me today.  What a great store.  I pretty much picked up everything I need to get up and running.  I can see myself spending a lot of time there!

I would do 14k on the MH simple because the 10k while it is great for growth, looks kind of yellow to me. the 14k gives a decent blue and growth both imo.

I could be wrong but I do not think t5 come in kelvin rating. you get different color bulbs for instance I run 2 true actenic and 2 powerchrome giesmans with my 14k pheonix halides. sounds like you may have the same fixture i do or similar.

You could get a 10k mh bulb for growth and 4 ATI blue+ t5 for color

Also for what it's worth, from my observations kelvin ratings vary quite a bit. I think it has to due to different manufactures, bulb types, as well as the ballasts you power them with. I have seen 10k bulbs that did look a tad yellow and I have also seen some that have a crisp white color.

I hate shopping for bulbs, it seems like you never know what you are going to get when trying new bulbs.
