So, I picked up a dart reeflo pump recently and unfortunately, if seems to want to humm and not spin. I had it running at one time. However, I unplugged it to do some tank maintainance and when I went to replug it, the pump hums and does not move water. Anyone have any suggestions or experience with this? Anyone want to come take a look? lol.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Sounds like the impeller is jammed. Any chance something got sucked up when you were doing maintenance? There should be directions on servicing the pump on their website.

Should be able to get the pump going by using a flat head screwdriver on the shaft screw(motor end) and turn it clock-wise, yes the pump has to be plugged in.

I don't think anything got sucked in. The tank is still in the process of being set up. So, not much happening inside the tank. I have the screens on the intakes. So, nothing big could have possibly gotten in.

I also checked the website and I took the back cover off and turned the shaft screw like they recommended but it didnt seem to work. Maybe I need to just try a bit longer, I wasnt sure now much I was to spin it and how easy is should be to rotate.

How fast do you need to twist it? Does it need to go several times around? ... I tried twisting it while it was on but no luck yet. (It is humming though, so ... )

Use a screwdriver on the back of the motor shaft to see if it turns freely is correct....but NOT when it's plugged in !! That is a very bad idea! It sounds like the brushes/armature might be bad or at least going bad.

I don't really have any idea on how to fix your issue, but I will say that reeflo has excellent customer service. So don't be afraid to get a hold of them.

Well, looks like the pump is toast /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default//emoticons/sad.gif

I took it apart to replace the seals and bearings and the motor shaft between the impeller and the bearing had been pitted away by saltwater leaking from the bad seal. So, looks like I will be ordering another pump.

    Total bummer.

Have you contacted Reeflo? They might be able to just sell you another motor.

Yeah, I contacted reeflo. It was cheaper to get a refurbished dart pump than to buy the new shaft, because of the parts integrated on it.

The wife is going to love the added cost of that one. ...
