In the Grove & Platt tank

I took a set of pics on Friday and posted them, went in on Saturday and the smaller black & white clown was not to be found.  I looked all over around the tank, in the sump, overflow, behind the stand, etc, thinking it jumped ship.  Nope.  Fed them.  Nope.  They were all there and eating and fine until Saturday.
You can see them both here

The smaller one is not to be found, I believe the Male.  Now based on my 10 second internet research, the male typically guards eggs and if this is a mated pair could that be what is going on?  I even took a small mirror on a stick (you know, the ones the dentists use) and tried to see what I could see, but nothing (although it is a 0.75" diameter mirror, what could I expect).
Tested water, no ammonia, no Nitrates.  I'm at a loss.  I need a bigger mirror, going to shut down the pump so have still water and use a mirror and a flashlight and see what I can see.  He's just gone.
    Any ideas?

Well...I don't think chances are very good if you haven't found him. Are your clowns hosting a patch of mushrooms?

All hopes of the male guarding the nest were dashed this afternoon.

I had to use a flashlight and a mirror to find him...on the floor, between the stand and the wall near the right rear corner. This is where the 2 B&W clowns would hang out (not on the floor) and something must have startled him.

He was a good fish. He will be missed. RIP, little guy. Funeral at sea was held shortly after the doc got back from lunch.

I guess the good side of this is that he didn't die of a disease, and didn't die in the tank.

must be something about the B&W clowns. I have had several jump to their deaths. Poor guy, has to be a horrible way to die.
