Chalices.

    I have been browsing and looking at some of the nice higher end chalices for sale and considering trying a project which i will go into later.
    I would like to know what is normal growth rate for these how often it will form new eyes and such.  I understand "normal" is relative to the husbandry and water quality of the keeper so lets just say your average guy.

    I won't even touch "average guy" with a 10 ft pole lol but I get about a square inch of growth ever 2 months or so on a Tyree Pink Bubblegum Chalice. I got an Alien Eye that's a real creeper though. It would seem that that Hollywood Stunner is a quick grower.

    I would say on average, growth rate is ~1 eye per month. If you could target feed them when their tentacles are out, they could grow much faster.

    reason why i am asking this is I was reading how folks are doing "grow out" group buys. they would by single eys of 1 or more chalices and 1 person would grow them out and frag them when there were enough for everyone.
    I was curious how long term of a investment this was.  I may be looking to do this but maybe start with faster growers like Zoas and pallys.

    It's a lot of work on your part. I have never done a grow out with multiple frags but I can imagine it would be a nightmare when things die or if you are waiting on a couple frags to grow out when others are ready. I have done a grow out on the My Miami chalice and it went smoothly because there were only 3 of us and there was only 1 coral.

    yeah i wouldnt want to do more then 1 at a time. I was just reading about some on r2r and 1 group of 5 bought like 5 chalices to do this. seemed like a great idea to get some choice pieces at a reasonable cost.

    what if 5 people all bought there own frag and agreed every 2 mounths to trade with one of the others in the group tell everyone had a eye of each one??? just a idea

    well the thing is some of these cost 100-300 an eye and others are double that.
