I've been through the calibration cycle like 10 times trying to get this probe to read properly. It looks like it is reading the values correctly when I'm calibrating (the number in the bottom of the window) but then when I press finish, it thinks the 10 soln is 9.34 and that my aquarium water is 7.54!? I'm using a PM1 module, would it make sense to unplug and uninstall this thing and then reinstall it? The probe LOOKs fine, not cracked, ball is clean and everything but....idk anybody had similar problems?

Sounds like the probe is going bad. Have you tried contacting Neptune support. They have responded to my questions fairly quickly. Good Luck.

I use reefkeeper, so I'm not familiar with the APEX calibration cycle. As far as pH probes in general, are you calibrating with two solutions? How old is the probe and has it ever dried out? Older probes tend to get sluggish and give erratic readings. Here is some good reading: http://www.omega.com/techref/ph-3.html

My probe is only a little more than a year old, never been dried out, or knocked around, always been kept in a probe holder. Good link. I had a RK2 before and it NEVER gave me problems, this APEX has been one thing after the other. But then again, it has ALOT more features.

from talking to the milwaukee guy at macna, and from other threads, a year is a good life out of pH probes. There is a gel inside the probe, that becomes exhausted over time. Also, if you put your probe in window cleaner/windex (with amonia) a good probe should shoot up past 10 very quickly. If the probe kind of jogs along, or slowly, up to and past 10 then it is definitely time to replace the probe.

Good input guys! Well that sucks. The last probe I had lasted 4 or 5 years with annual calibration, it certainly couldn't have been very precise, but it was accurate and within a normal range even by comparison to sailfert test. That would suck if you had to replace them once a year, I don't know how long we get out of the ones at work. I'll check with our chemist and see what the validation requirements are for the ones we use at the hospital. I know we have to calibrate 2x daily.

We calibrate our ph probe every time we use it at work which averages out to about once or twice a week. We usually get at least one year from a probe but I had to replace the last one after 6 months.

Yah the one they use in the lab where I work gets calibrated daily.

Turns out fugin PM1 module is messed up. I just replaced the probe and calibrated= same problem. So I have to figure it's a problem with the PM1 module. I'm going to contact Neptune this week. >:-( Pissed
