I have a 60gallon corner tank, it is about 22 inches deep, i have a single set of T5 which works fine for the corals i have, however, i would like to spread my corals out alittle, i currently have, red montipora, a purple montipora (which is beautiful), red, blue, green mushrooms, some kenya tree, and frogspawn.  The issue i am having is all these are kept at about 12 inch deep at most, so bottom of my tank has nothing.  When i lower my mushrooms they seem to not open up as big.  Is there any corals that anyone would recommend.  Or is it jsut a light issue, and im going to have to bite the bullet.

    Lights...

And just to be the antagonist I'll say....Have you considered DIY LED? /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default//emoticons/smile.gif

Actually could get your hands on a PAR meter from another club member (another good reason to join) and see what you have at different levels currently and that may help you shop for corals.

How many bulbs in the T5 Fixture? I have been experimenting with LED lights - currently using a EV0-150 over a 20" deep tank...lots of light for everything.

good t5s with proper reflectors shouldn't have much problem keeping mushrooms and everything you listed happy on the bottom of your tank.

I have the same situation as you Chappy but that will soon be a thing in my past! YAY :=0) My tank is 24" deep(about 30" where the lights are mounted in the canopy) and I have 150w MH's and 96w CF's. I bought a par meter and I have places where my Par is just 80...yikes! Who would have thought! I'm not a DIY'er as I'm a senior female with limited 'hardware' experience (but I can bake a mean Cake!). T5's are well established in the hobby as putting out good Par as long as the unit has good reflectors and good bulbs (appropriately sized for the tank too). The Grim Reefer on Reef Central has a special thread there for T5's. As far as LED's, there are still mixed reports from hobbyists. Some are getting good growth, some are not. Some are getting good spread, some are not. Some like the LED's, some are supplementing them with T5's and some are using LED's with MH's. Since LED's are newer to the hobby, the "kinks" are still being reported and addressed. Some LED's are manufactured with high wattage bulbs and some use lower wattage but many bulbs. Are T5's going to be replaced by LED's, plasma or something else?...I doubt it. Are LED's here to stay?...absolutely. You may want to use a Par meter and I'd encourage that. You may be able to supplement your lighting with LED's like Stunner Strips to get you by until you bite the bullet ;-) Frankly, I haven't made my decision yet but I need to soon...like by this weekend ;-0) Good luck!!

My tank is 23" deep with T5's and I get mushrooms, toadstools, candycane, and frogspawn to open up just fine. You might need new bulbs or maybe different kinds of bulbs
