I bought many blue and snails 2 months ago.  Since then I have noticed the blue legs eating snails and blue legs also dead floating.  It cant be because I dont feed them I feed them pellets daily.  Am I better just going with snails only?  And I was also looking at reefcleaners and are the dwarf certh snails any good?  Is it possible to put 500 in a 90 gallon?  Thanks

Hermits will go after unsuspecting snails. You also need to provide hermits with extra shells they can "grow" into.
I got a bunch of dwarf ceriths from reef cleaners and wouldn't buy them again. I think a lot of them arrived dead, but they are so small you can't tell. The rest don't seem to be doing that great in the tank. My sand is just littered with the stupid little shells.

Blue legs can be more aggressive and they do need the extra shells around to move into as the grow or the will be more likely to attack snails for their shells. The only ones I put in my tank are Scarlet Reef Hermit Crabs, they are less aggressive and IMO look much nicer. They are more costly and for some reason I don't see them if LFS very often.

or you can get some turbos, they do asome work as long as you dont have any small corals they can plow over /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default//emoticons/smile.gif

The crabs could be growing bigger and molting.

I ordered those little snails and would never do it again.  They go through your overflow and end up in your sump and find their way into pumps or end up in filter socks.

Molts do look a lot like dead floating crabs...larger snails may work better (I have never seen crabs go after the larger snails I get from the lfs).
