Hello, to my alarm my male mustang seahorse had babies, so far about 50 and they are all alive. I heard that sometimes it takes up to 72 hours to give birth, I have them in a fish net breeder inside my 30 gal nano. I
am also feeding then baby brine shrimp and they are doing well, so far ,since yesterday, when the first batch was born, and again this morning about 20. I have not noticed any casualties yet.
I was wondering if there is anyone that have a refugium or nano or small tank already cycled, at a fair price, so when they get bigger I can transfer them there. this was totally unexpected, since I was told that it is hard for them to breed in captivity.

    Thank you

Hey, I have a RR 20gal nano setup for sale. I wish i saw this thread earlier cuz i just dumped about 10 gal's of my water out when i broke down the tank... I have about 15 gallons of cycled water left. my 10gal sump is almost full of water and the DSB in there is still live... About 5-6 gal's of water left in the DT... that amount of cycled water and a DSB, you'll get a very very small cycle. I wouldn't be surprised if your tank is cycled overnight.
If you're interested and can come grab it tomorrow, i'd make you a deal on everything including the Mag9.5 return pump that is installed... I was asking 85 for the tank/sump/stand and 80 for the mag9.5... if you can come grab it tomorrow, you can have the water and all the live sand in the DSB for 140 dollars.
I'd need to make sure you can come grab it tomorrow tho, the stagnat water is already making my room smell like well... stagnat sea water, lol.
I'm in ames BTW, a 25 min drive...

You can probably just use a 5g bucket or something similar with an airstone, heater, some macro algae/something for them to grasp etc and do careful water changes. I would just read up on it and see, they sound like they are doing fine where they are now. We need some pictures of these little guys!

Good luck, i tried twice and couldn't get any of them to make it. I did a lot of reading on the internet and it's very hard to get them eating. Most of mine would be gone in 3-4 days.

They prob won't eat anything but live food. And they have to eat multiple times a day. But you also need to keep from fouling the water. It is very tough to get the fry past these next few days. Good luck I hope a a bunch make it! What kind of seahorses are they?

Baby Brine shrimp are good for them to eat. If you can see there bellies turn orange then they are eating and they should be fine. I would buy some big goldfish bowls and put air stone in them. They only need to keep moving slowly and keeping them in something round would help this. They don't really need to hang on to anything. They can just be suspended and floating around and around slowly in the tank. This is how they do it over seas. You have to change water several times daily and feed them live BB as far as I remember reading. If you leave them in your nano the brine will fowl your water over time and you don't want to do that.

I would love to have some as well, but have no tank set up for them.

Good luck and pictures would be cool to see.

Thank you to all of you that responded. So far they are alive, i don't know how to load pics here, besides they are so little lol. I feel that them being inside the tank is beneficial towards because it stays cool since i have a chiller other wise the water would warm up and seahorses don't like that much.I also syphon the nursery to take dirty water. I have bought the BB eggs. I have them in a bucket with air stone and a heater, they hatch since I can see them moving everywhere. I read that feeding baby sweet potato and baby pes puree, mix it with salt water in an empty pop bottle and refrigirate, i also have to change the water of the baby shrimp.
I will wait a few more days to see if they are going to survive and then I will reply to the people that have offered to sell the nano or tanks.
To people that would like to have one, if they make it of course everyone can have one since i have around 50, I don't think i can keep them all.

    Thank you
