I've been watching my biocube and I'm seeing many of these brittle starfish reaching out of the rocks. Each maybe an inch. Will these get big? Is too many not good?

My 29 gallon BC was so infested with them they had orgy's on top of my coral. I actually lost coral from it.

They literally piled on top of each other by at night and made plums of "stuff" in the water column.

IMO if the environment is right any species can develop into plague proportions.

So if it gets too bad in it I can freshwater dip the rocks to make them come out? Also will the small ones stay small?

  4. or get a harlequin shrimp which will eat everyone it can catch

A coral dip solution will kill them. I had a couple hitch hikers on a coral and after the dip I saw them in the bottom of the container. They were dead under 1 minute.

  7. With just 1 harlequin in there you might be ok or you could just get the ocassional CC star and feed him?

yeah it will take a while for him to eat all those stars if there are as many as you say.

And after they are gone 1 CC star a month will suffice for keeping him fed.

A harliquin shrimp won't eat brittle stars I know because I've had a couple of them and they never touched brittle stars however they will eat the little asternia stars like crazy I had one clear out my 75 in a month and 2 cleared out my old 300 gal in a month and both tanks were infested with those stars

  11. Do they look like this? they have been extending their arms out from all over this huge rock stealing my coral's food and luckily have yet to spread. just left of the radioactive dragon eyes in the picture. [IMG]
