    1.  If I were to order these, would I be missing anything to make them all work together?  Specifically, I am wondering if I need to get any aquabus cables.  I don't think I care about the display because I can just use my computer/browser.

    temp probe
    Apex EnergyBar 4
    std grade ph probe
    2. whats the difference between the std grade ph probe and the lab grade?

I think that would do it.

You still have time to get in on the Reef Geek group buy. They have packages that group it together for you.

Not sure about the real difference in probes. I am assuming that the lab grade is more accurate to tenths, but that is an assumption.

You may need a router and some extra cables you can pick up at Wally world.

Unfortunately, the display is part of it; you will need it.

Go for the EB8; it isn't much more and trust me, you will fill them up.
The aquabus cable needs to go between the computer itself and the eb4 (or 8). Most "kits" come with it, but its just a standard male to male usb cable; easy to buy online in a variety of lengths and colors.

Go to reef central to the Neptune vendor forum; it has links to the indispensable unofficial manual. Read through that before dropping cash.

I'm still fighting with my Apex.....but I am working the problems down slowly.

    can't help ya on #2 tho. /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default//emoticons/smile.gif.

I recently bought a apex and the advice i recieved was to go with the standard grade probes. Also, the EB8's are great. What are you planning on controlling that you would only need 4 outlets?

I would get in on the Reef Geek buy, but I am trying to come up with affordable xmas gift ideas.  I don't think asking for a $500 gift would cut it, but something in the $150 range would.  /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/wink.gif

Why do you say the display is needed?  Couldn't I just interact with it via the web server?
Good to know about a standard usb cable.
Will check out the neptune vendor forum.
    Thanks!

I was planning on controlling two heaters and two MH.  If/when I needed more I was thinking I could just expand.  Is that not the case?

I think that there may be some functions that are only accessible from the display currently. This is changing and all functions will be accessible from the web server in future releases.

One other thing to keep in mind...as long as you don't go over your amp max, you can use splitters and put multiple lights or heaters on a single outlet. You can buy nice, heavy duty splitters for a few dollars online. Then you would be able to control more things.

Yeah, you can expand it easily with any of the Energy Bars. And an EB8 is right about 150 shipped.....

I couldn't connect to the controller until I had installed the display head; and there are a few functions that can only be done from there. I had trouble getting mine up and happy, so it may have been unrelated, but I'm pretty sure it's a required bit.

Anyone else out there running without a head unit?
