I have always felt that the temp in my 40B (glass tank) seems cooler than in my DT (acrylic tank) even when the temp probes are reading the same temp.(right now both reading 77.6 degrees) so I thought I'd check it out. Using the same thermometer, the DT is 1.2 degrees warmer. Reading the unofficial users manual, it says that Neptune calibrates the temp probe when the base module and probe are purchased together, with the calibration stored in the module. It is not true when using other probes or modules (using the PM1 on the 40B) which is the case with the 40B. So, what I am wondering, can I take the temp probe from the 40B and move it to the DT's PM1 and calibrate it from there? I purchased the Apex and all the hardware from George/Reef Geek so all of it was in the same box, ie. which temp probe went to which PM1 was unknown. I know it would be just easier to set the temp a degree higher for the 40B but I'm curious/DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/smile.gif

Has anyone had their temp probe go bad? If yes, did you calibrate the new one with an 'NIST thermometer?

I'd put them in the same body of water and calibrate them to read the same as hooked up normally. IE run the display off the main unit, and the 40B off the PM1 unit both in your display and get them reading the same. I wouldn't calibrate 1 of them by unhooking it and hooking it into a different box.

Sorry but I'm not sure if I understand what you are telling me to do/DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/confused.gif Are you saying: (1) unplug the 40B temp probe from that tank's PM1...(2) move the 40 probe into the DT and plug it into the DT's PM1? (3)Then calibrate it using the display/monitor instead of using the internet method? The tanks are too far apart for the 40 probe to reach the Display so I would have to use the PM 1 on the display to calibrate the 40 probe....

Should I also recalibrate the DT's probe (as it's been a year since it/they were calibrated)? Thanks, I'll understand pretty soon/DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Calibrate the temp probes while attached to their own PM1s. Move both PM1s together with there attached temp probes to one common water volume and calibrate both so they read the same. I don't think you'll get an accurate calibration if you move just the probe to a different device (IE PM1 or however your setup is configured) than it is normally hooked to.
I have no idea what the actual process is to calibrate them.

Now I understand however that won't work for me...the 40's PM 1 cord runs along the baseboard in the room. I went through 2 (expensive 25" extension) cords before the hubby got it tacked down without damaging the cord /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default//emoticons/sad.gif I may give Neptune a call when I have a few spare moments. Thanks for your idea and help though :=0)
