For the past 3 days, I haven't been able to access the Apex on my computer. I get a message saying that this page can't be displayed, make sure the web address is correct and refresh the page in a few minutes/DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/sick.gif I've probably messed things up now trying to get it to open/DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/crying.gif I have unplugged the wireless router at least half a dozen times thinking that was the problem. When I've had this happen in the past, unplugging things have helped. Anyone have an ideas what I should do/try? I get so frustrated with technology!/DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/whistling.gif

Do you have an apex display?
If you do go to the display itself and check the network settings. Make sure DHCP is disabled - this keeps your IP address the same- then check to make sure your IP is what you thought it was.
Hopefully its something as simple as your router assigning it a new address.

Yes, I have the display David. In Net Setup, the DHCP was ON. I turned it OFF. The IP address on the display shows 192.168. 1.105 My actual address is 192.168.0.1 There are 2 empty spaces on the display...like what you see above?! I don't know how to change it/delete and key in the numbers. Can you help me?

what do you mean by actual IP address? The address you were previously typing in to access the apex? After you changed the DHCP setting did you reset the Apex?

If the DHCP was enabled it means that the Apex will take whatever IP address your router gives to it. This can change when the router and apex are reset. Not a big deal until you try to access is on the network and it all of a sudden you can't. So basically your apex got a new address sometime. Now that you turned off the DHCP it will keep the IP address indefinitely. You should just be able to type in the new address at your computer to access the apex. the 192.168.1.105 number

My IP address is 192.168.0.1 The display shows it as 192.168. 1.105 (I haven't tried typing anything into the display as I don't know how.) No, I didn't reset the Apex as I don't know how to do that either.

The addresses are different David. I just tried to access the Apex page on the computer and it still isn't loading it for me to give it my password. Maybe Because of not resetting it too? Can you tell me how to type in the correct address? Then, I would think I need to reset it, correct? How do I do that? Sorry about being such a pain David! I'm just do everything on the computer and don't do anything other than what's absolutely necessary as I don't want to mess it up! Sorry!!

what the display shows is the address you MUST now use to access the apex via your computer. If you have it running on anything but the default port (80) you must enter that as well. You can see that labeled as the HTTP port under the net settings.Yes it can all be changed, but at this time lets just try to get it connected via your network again. If it needs to be changed later we can figure that out. To reset the APEX there is a restart option under the net settings that will cycle the apex.

Just go to your address bar on your computer and type in the 192.168.1.105 address that your APEX has listed as the IP. if there is a port other than 80 listed under HTTP port for example 9900 then you would type in 192.168.1.105:9900 to access your apex.

I can access the Apex online now....YAY!! Thanks again David!! I would like the Apex's IP Address to be the same as my computer. If it's not too much trouble, could you help me with that? I now know that the DHCP should be OFF so I shouldn't have trouble with that again :0)

You can not do that. IP addresses have to be unique to each device that is connected to the network via your router. If you have 5 devices you would have 5 IP addresses. You'll get all kinds of problems if the router sees 2 things with the same IP.

    Sponge,

I assume what you want is the ability to access your APEX when away from home? If so, I think you are having some confusion between a local IP address (your home network only), and your internet IP address (what connects your modem to the rest of the world).

On your local network (everything behind your router) every device must have a unique IP address (usually 192.168.1.xxx where xxx is a number assigned by the router). As soon as you leave the local network these IP addresses are meaningless.
Your internet IP address is what you would use to access any device on your network from the outside (work, your neighbors house, etc.), your router is then capable of "routing" the information to the appropriate internal address (192.168.1.xxx), in this case your APEX.
So in effect any device on your home network does have the same IP address, when accessed from the outside, but they each require a unique local IP address for your router to send information to.

    Hopefully this helps.

OK, I think I'm following you Ia City(I was just there today! lol ) All I know is when I got the Apex, I needed a wireless thingie since the Apex was going to be on the main floor and my Internet comes in at the basement....that's where the "thingie" is. I'd just click on the Apex in my Fave's and the status sheet would be on the screen :0) Anyway. I'm writing that number down :0)

Thanks again for getting me online again David!!!!

You should be able to just update your favorite to the new apex address. And now that DHCP is disabled it should not switch on you again.
