First go to your web browser type..whatismyip this should give your IP address that is given to your network from outside the network. When you have this your good. Problem is some Internet service providers change this outside IP so you need to check on this. Now look up your port forwarding instructions for your router. Once you do this you will pick a port you would like the apex to be. By default I think its 80. You can change this in your apex net setup.
So if your IP address of you Apex is 192.168.1.110 and port is 80 you will add this to your port forwarding area of your router as IP 192.168.1.110 at port 80. What the forwarding does is when your adding the address to your Apex ap you use the whatismyip IP you get and the port you want to get forwarded to. So let's say your outside address is 209.233.103.123 then when you are out of network you would reach your apex by supplying the app or your browser with 209.233.103.123:80 for web browser. This when entered will call up your router and say please open this port(80) and by adding port 80 in your port forwarding section it will say OK forward this call to 192.168.1.110 or what ever your Apex IP is. Hope this helps

You really only need to do that if your internet service provider changes your outside IP all the time. Some do and you will need to ask them if you don't know.

One more thing some ports are blocked by default by your ISP also. I would not use port 80. Try something else. 8080 or 50. Any 4 digit number will work. Just make sure your Apex is updated to that port also. Info is all in the Apex Neptune systems manual. You can download it from there site even. I broke it down for you. As long as you have it working in network all ready its as easy as 1 2 3. :).

Make sure port you use is not used by any other device.

I have my ip and it is a static. I port forwarded port 7333 and when i try to ping the router it does not respond. i have the return ping on. and port forward program states that no ports are open. i have a asus rt-n66u router. I disabled all firewalls and even dmz the port to the apex and still can not get to it. i believe its something in the router not letting the ports open. I have already done everything that you guys stated and i followed the manual to a t. and still nothing any more idea's??? please help

Make sure that the last 3 digits are correct on your Ip for the Apex. Can you get on it local from inside the router? by just typing the Apex IP plus the Port number?

OK then something is not right with your port forwarding. Its not setup right or its not working correctly. This can only be fix by looking into the problem setting right in front of it. Sorry I am out of town for another 8 days. I would go over steps adding it to your port forwarding section in your router or buy another router. I always use Linksys routers.

I did buy a new router, I had a d link and i switched to the asus because of the reviews. I have all the port forwarding correct, the Router is definitely blocking the ports. I really dont want to spend another $150 on a router my reef tanks puts a dent on the wallet enough LOL. hmmm I have no idea what it could be. Is there any program that will force them open? or a good program to use to check them with and trouble shoot from?

I agree you need to talk to Neptune. There should be no issues if all is setup correct. Short of being at your house I can't think of any other things to try.

If the router is blocking ports then its an issue with router or setup. The setup of port forwarding opens the port and forwards it to the local IP that you said is working.
This may sound crazy but check and recheck your setup. Took me three days just to get local working on my system. I am a computer guy and still made one mistake that caused a problem. Using ping in Cmd window should work. Try other ports and make sure the port you are using match. APEX should be xxxx along with what you set up in your router. Sorry but if every thing is set up correct as it sounds you believe is then contact Neptune. The tech guy is great.
