I got all the parts in for my Apex Breakout Box so I thought I would do a little write up on the build. Overall the project is fairly easy. There is soldering involved, not my best skill but I'm getting better and made it work. The hardest part was figuring out what wire colors went to each pin on the DIN8 cable. I didn't have any type of meter, so I resorted to cutting apart the plug and melting off the insulation.
I used this thread from Reef Central as a guide on the build and the parts to buy. I decided to go with 3 switches and 3 input jacks for this one. But you can do any combination you wish. The Apex will recognize up to 6 inputs for each box connected.

The Project box I went with is a little smaller one than the Reef central thread. Soldering in it was a little tight, but there is still room for everything.

I drilled holes and added 3 mono jacks to the side.

And 3 momentary switches to the face.

Bad picture of the soldering, but here is the inside of the box.

The finished box with a float switch installed.

I had originally tried my luck that my cable would have the same
color/pin combinations as the Reef Central thread. After getting it all
soldered together I found out it wasn't even close. So i had to figure
out my pin outs and redo all the wiring.
For now I will be using the float switches for my ATO. The buttons I will probably program to shut down my return and skimmer for maintenance.
