I have an APEX with the wxm module to control my MP40s. I have not set it up to control them, but I was curious on what and how it takes control. I have the MP40w drivers and not the newest ecosmart ones.
Does the WXM have the ability to give me the extra modes available on the ES drivers? Firmware update?
Basically does the APEX and WXM take direct control of the pumps somehow, or does it control the drivers that control the pumps?

You should update your drivers on both before you run the two together. Make sure the apex is working like it should, test your outlets and make sure the apex turns them on and off( long story and probably my fault) checking to verify so. No new programing for the vortech but you can run any combo of programs in a day or time and when feeding you can shut it off or slow it down. I like that its much easier to program the vortech to do what I want when I want it to.

The Apex module will not give you the modes with the new ES drivers. basically you get a "one stop shop" for controlling your mp40s. Also, your modes are saved during power cycle/failure (wherase the vortechs lose their settings)

hmm my vortechs do not lose their settings when i shut the power off. personally i do not feel there is a need to put your vortechs on a controller. they have their own.

thanks everyone. I was guessing I was limited to the modes on my current drivers. Are the extra few features of the ES pumps worth an upgrade?
Also can W series and the new ES series drivers be synced together? I would guess not. Reason I am asking is more than likely I will be adding a couple more vortechs to the 250, while not necessary it would be nice if they were able to be all synced together.

I have the MP40w ES so it sounds like you have a Gen2 wireless? I can't tell you how the four will work together. I was thinking with the WXM you could mimic the NTM setting by programing it to short pulse for a hour then ramp up for 10min, maybe 60sec long pulse at a strong intensity. Just an idea, now the TSM...? Personally I didn't like having to reprogram the the dam thing all the time so I like using the Apex thats what I bought it for. IMO

Is the upgrade worth it? I guess that depends but I love the nutrient transport mode.

I will probably upgrade one day then. Or just sell these to my buddy and get some of the ES pumps.
As far as vortechs on a controller. I got the Apex controller used and it came with the WXM. I figured I may as well use it.
