I am reducing the depth of the sandbed in my 4 month old tank. I used good quality aragonite (nice "special grade" mixed with some Arag-Alive plus a little "seeding" from the previous tank owner's sand. No "play-sand" here! /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/smile.gif

The sandbed was just vacuumed as part of my water change today, so it should be pretty detritus free.

I don't want to crash my tank so I am doing moderate amounts at a time, but I have a 1 gallon ice cream bucket full of sand with salt water to keep it wet.

I would like to recoup a few bucks from it if possible. I would guess that it is about $20-$25 worth of sand pretty easily, and I'll take just $10.

Pickup tonight would be best obviously. I live on the NE part of Marion.

    PM me if interested.

(Tank specs: Tank is a 120 gallon FOWLR with 100% RO/DI water used, so no real worries about anything leaching into the sand. Water test today was 8.2 pH, 0.0 Amonia, 0.0 Nitrite, 5.0 ppm Nitrate.)

I don't want the sand but was wondering the current depth of your sand bed and why you are reducing it.

I've got some small spots that are around 4", but most is around 2.5" - 3" in depth.

After the tank tour, I liked the look of less sand (1" - 2") and didn't want to be on the borderline for a DSB. The "expert" advice I received was to get it all down to 2.5" or less, and that since the tank is only 4 months old, now is the time to do it.
