I am just wondering if anyone is running a system like this one:
Bean Animal's Silent and Safe Overflow System

There's a huge RC thread on it so I figure someone's gotta have one. I saw a 90g with one on buy/sell not too long ago. I'm thinking of building one and would like to look at a functioning system if there's one nearby.

    Thanks

I used to have one on a 125 before we flooded.

I didnt use that design, I had all the drains running all the time.

It worked well I liked it. I had an extra shelf on the front to put some corals high up close to the water.

Hardest thing was leveling it to make sure the water didnt enter at just one end.

I just got my sump plumbed and kicked off the pump a week or two ago. So far so good. Takes a little tweeking to get it set. Wish i had used gate valves instead of ball valves.

I had that thought also. Much easier to fine tune.

mcclandy, did you drill it and install the trough or whatever you call it yourself? I'm trying to think ahead about what I will need to do since i haven't paid for the tank yet at seascapes and am still on the fence about doing it vs RR. I can't get the overflows special ordered through the deal, so they would be along the back 6" from each corner and I'm not sure I'd be happy with that. So I want to do the Calfo system, with the overflow possibly on the side - I might put the tank through the wall in the future, plus it would save space immediately as well.

Did you make the trough out of glass or acrylic? Would it work with acrylic held in place with silicone? I would think it would be rather easy to level out the edge that way, all you would have to do it trim it if needed...
