I know it's last second but I'm kinda in a bind. I will compensate them if it makes them more comfortable and would pay for the bit if anything should happen to it.

We have a 1" bit **** BUT*** MOST bulkheads do NOT fit this size... all though we are in Ames. We tend to make our own bulk heads because it's so much cheaper that way. But you'd be welcome to borrow it. I'd just need it back as soon as you were done...as we are drilling tanks this weekend.

What size bit is recommended and do i need two different sizes? Where could i buy and what would i need to make my own bulkheads?

Really do not think you can "make" your own bulheads /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default//emoticons/smile.gif

Nik we do make our own and they hold well... granit these are all on smaller tanks though, I wouldn't recommend going this route with larger tanks.

yeah it's a cheap alternative when you have lots of SMALL tanks...I have not tried it on anything larger than a 29g though...

If you're going to do that for SW you need to use EPDM o-rings. I get mine for my scrubbers from oringsusa.com

Yes you should, those are much more resistant to wear and tear...especially in terms of alkaline water resistance. These are just cheap ones from lowes and if I pull one of these bulkheads off I usually don't put it back on. if I question it at all. So far their doing the job just fine. /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default//emoticons/wink.gif

I have made similar "bulkheads" on one early version of an algae scrubber that I made. They did work very well. Never seen anyone else do it!

looks like mine is a 45mm hole saw. this would be for a 1" bulk head, which are typically measure 42mm.

Got the tank drilled. No cracks and no breakage but no nerves left either. Thanks to everybody for the reassurance and guidance and of course the loaning of the bits.
