Any tips for setting up a 120 gallon reef in a non-reef ready tank?

    Yeah, they aren't cheap. But, I've never had a spill using one in 10+ years.

    Although at that price I would probably tell him to drill it.

    I've never been a fan of overflow boxes. Their expensive and a lot more complicated than a simple hole.
    Assuming the tanks not tempered Drill it! He'll be much happier in the long run. $20 for a glass hole saw $10 for a couple of bulkheads and $20 for some acrylic is a much better route to go, looks cleaner as well. DIY

    That requires drilling the tank, and yes that is a very good way to do it.
