I have a 14g biocube with custom LED's built into the top, and UV sterilizer.... Currently housing a mini reef, but for a good price I could part with. But again, I'm out in Ames...which is a treck for ya.

How are the LEDS on those cubes for growth? I have seen them with MHs...

I think they do a pretty good job.... But I'm a softy kinda gal. Never have liked the look of hard corals. So mushrooms, zoa's and the likes do great.... frogspawn, torch are totally good too. Open brain and favia are both doing awesome. Even have a spiral coral sponge (but this is a non photosynthetic) So yeah, I'd say just fine! Even coraline does super. /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default//emoticons/smile.gif

But this was not one of those 'pre' sorted kits that are retrofitted for cubes... this was truly custom as in the LED's picked were cree and spaced as was desired. So, yeah, I can't say much in terms of any of the pre made kits out there.

**sorry the waters cloudy and my mushrooms pissed in this one... lol.... all I had on hand though!

    And starfish?

ha ha... nope not freshwater, although they do tend to look that way. These are the notorious red spot glass cardinalfish... (glass cardinals). An incredibly difficult fish to get shipped, but once established fairly easy to keep. They have never been breed in captivity... hence why I as a breeder was drawn to them! [IMG]

And the starfish was sold to me under the name linckia, though it does not act like the linckia star. It is incredibly active and moves about the tank at all hours of the day and night in broad site. Not one to hide at all. [IMG]

Looks like a linckia to me. I really want a blue one. Bad

It does tend to look incredibly close to the linckia I'll have to look up the scientific journal I was reading when I found the name for it. I actually think it is linckia but a subspecies ? I can't recall off hand right now, but i'll look it up tonight!

No, we bought them from a guy who gutted the lid and put his own in... nice little build, but my husband went through and changed a few things (mainly spacing of the LED's, as he had already chosen a pretty good spectrum of lights with some nice cree led's) to get the look we wanted. Oh, and in that picture you can see a marineland submersible blue LED bar, that is no longer in there... with the new corrections the blue isn't needed.

If your thinking of upgrading or installing your own, I'd definitely say go for it. I had had several bio cubes with their standard lights, even a MH light in one, and never really liked to look of it, this one was easy for us to like, but mainly that my husband works with this stuff and knew he could tinker with it easily if need be. I hated the original lighting in these cubes and there was little to know good growth on those lights, so we decided to switch to this. Works well, I'm just wanting to go up to a bigger size tank (still small) but would like to house some seahorses in it. Maybe something pillar shape? and we'll throw our kessil over that tank.

My 29 biocube has a 150w sunpod over it. I hate pc lighting. Ive found a good deal on a dimmable meanwell driver. Brand new and I can order epistars for less than $2 each so ill be running 11 3w leds. 7 blue and 4 white
