You need to make sure you split it so each section has part of the original mouth........btw, that's the largest freakin rbta I've ever seen /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/blink.gif  When they get that huge, they usually split on their own.  Sometimes you can make a slight change in the water chemistry or the salinity and that's enough stress to make them start a split on their own.  Personally, I would try and get them to split themselves, as it seems like a huge pita to me to 1. get the anemone out of its hole in the rock, and 2. the mess and stress of cutting something that can sting me and resembles jello out of water.........

Cut it into half right thru the Mouth and foot. They are pretty easy, but one that big I think it would be very hard. I would leave it, because you may piss it off and it may take you out in your sleep. lol

    2 ways I've stressed rbta's to split...........
    1. Turn your lights off for 2-3 days (I did it to kill cynobacteria and my 1 rbta split into 4)
    or
    2. Direct water flow at it's mouth, enough to kinda pin it down and make it hard for it to move (one was sitting under the return on my filter and the flow director fell off over night so the water flowed down directly on the rbta and it split into 3)
or just cut it, but if you try and take if off of that rock you will almost certainly kill it (don't do what I did!) If you have to, you can use icecubes made from RO water and touch them to it's base, but if it doesn't let go DO NOT FORCE IT OFF! or you will tear them like I did!

Cool nem, that thing looks exactly like my green long tentacle anemone. How often do the tents form bubbles?. just like black runner mine got a couple hair cuts when taking a trip through my vortech. It didn't touch his base or foot so he's totally fine but I like my SPS more so he's haning out in my angler tank now.

After seeing him make it through two "haircuts" it showed me that the tentacles can be trimmed without inflicting a life threatening wound. If his tents are touching and hurting other corals just give them a quick snip to make a little room.

in all honesty you will pry have better luck selling him whole to somone else not risking killing him. Buying a smaller nem would be a lot safer/less stressful. Just my two cents good luck!

I think it looks AMAZING! Congratulations on such a fine specimen! Personally, I would not try to split it. It will do it on its own when it's ready. Fawn is right, BTA's will split when there's a change in water chemistry or salinity. Sometimes just a WC will bring it on. It has good genetics so it's clones will great for selling but as I said, I would "not" split it!
What do you feed it?  How often are you feeding it?

wow thanks for all the info! guess after reading all that i pry shouldnt split it yes it is a bubble tip it bubbles and stays smaller usually when just the blue lights are on , when all the lights are on he spreads out around 2ft around and soaks up all the light he can get ! i was just feeding him frozen shrimp once a week or so but i havent fed him in over a month now and he pry wont get any food directly from me in the near future were getting into corals now and im concerned hes gonna start killing them off if he continues to grow thanks again for the info.

If you are going to cut it, you have to take it out of the tank and off the rock, no easy task it looks like there.

I agree with stressing it to split. turn off lights, drop you salinity 2-3 points real fast, etc often will induce them to split.

    Very nice BTW
