Im looking to add more sand to my system. Now that I have live sand can I add dead sand to it? If so what kind? Its so expensive buying live sand by the bag at 20 plus dollars. Any ideas?

You should be able to add dead sand. You would just want to add it little bits at a time. Like a couple cups every few days. Also, I hear using a piece of pvc and a funnel helps to get the sand to the bottom without adding all the extra dust. (As for where to get the sand and what type, I will leave that to the more knowledgeable.) /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default//emoticons/smile.gif

+1 as Pete said. There's really no reason to buy the more expensive Live Sand as it's "suppose to be" innoculated with bacteria. IMO, it's just another way for charging more for sand. If you think about it, how long was the bag of sand packaged and sitting on the store shelf? Would the bacteria still be alive? Also, most people rinse the sand to get the contaminates out and to reduce cloudiness before putting it in the tank.... /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default//emoticons/smile.gif

Good point. I forgot to mention that step.
