Adding a coral beauty to a reef?

I have a coral beauty that is in a 20 gallon with several mushrooms, a few zoas, and chalice. But, I want to move him to my large 135 gal. If he is leaving the coral in my 20 gal alone, should he leave my coral in the 135 alone? ... Any advice?

No real answer for this. They are hit and miss. You will find some that say model citizen and others trying to unload their due to coral nipping.

What Mike said, but if he isnt eating what you have now, that is a pretty good sign he wont.

Thanks guys. I have not seen evidence of him nipping coral. Like I said, lots of mushrooms, a Cyphastrea, a couple chalices, and some zoanthids. I think i might try him then. Hopefully he behaves. Lol. Otherwise, might have a coral beauty for sale. Lol

I've heard that this can go either way. The positive is that he is already eating food other than corals, however, in the larger tank I am assuming there are some different corals. Some may be "too temping to resist".

I mean, I could eat a quality hot dog every day and ignore a hamburger, but put me in a place where I have the same hot dog and hamburger choice PLUS the option of steak... Screw the hot dog, give me some steak!

Ok, so I am not a big hot dog fan, but you get the idea. Just because a creature can resist netural tendancies does not always mean that changing a few variables will mean that they won't change their behavior too.

Then again, maybe your coral beauty is happy with hot dogs. /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/tongue.gif

LOL I have the same issue, BigDs Angels are a CB, flameback, and bicolor and the Doc wants those in his tank or at least a few, BigDs has rics and frgospawn and tons of SPS and they didn't bother anything but the doc has lots of softies that might be tasty. Truthfully they could mow them down for all I care but good to hear these opinions. I was going to QT them with some tasty num nums and see if they went after them. Hopefully they love Anthelia I hate that crap.

I'd go for it and hope for the best. I have a coral beauty and a flame angel in my tank and have never seen them pick at any corals.

I think I will give him a shot then. Thanks guys! I will keep you posted on him. (Will also try to feed a lot to keep him happy. Hope then he never realizes he likes corals. Lol)

Well, it looks like I won't know if the coral beauty would behave in the 135 gal reef. Apparently my powder brown tang HATES him. The CB got chased around the tank like a maniac. It took me 20 mins to catch him (wife had the quick reflexes!). It really took me by complete surprise. I was not expecting the tang and the CB to fight. And by fight, I mean the tang chase him and beat the crap out of him! I now have the CB in my sump to get some safety. Fins are a little ruff but no major damage. Talk about stressful!!!!

Do you have a Reef Gently by any chance Pete? You could put the CB in there to acclimate it and the Tang. Once the Tang gets accustomed to the CB, they should do fine together :0) My CB doesn't go after any of my corals and never has. I keep my fish well fed /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default//emoticons/smile.gif Good luck Pete!

Your PB will be like towards every fish you add with an oval body shape. Good news, it should only last a couple days. A breeding box hanging inside should do the trick.

Thanks for the info. Looks like I need to find a breeder box. /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default//emoticons/smile.gif

So, the CB has been in a large egg crate box for 4 days. How long before I can let him out? The powder brown has not even noticed him in the box. What signs should I be looking for that would indicate they are either ok or not ok?

    Thanks!

The mini angels are a very tempting fish...every time I'm shopping in a fish store one will catch my eye and i ask myself "should I take the chance?" Someday Ii might set up a fowlr tank so I can have all the beautiful fish that are questionable around inverts and corals.
