75gal project

Well this is going to be my 75gal project.
I bought it and it look ok. It was in the middle of a restore by previous owner.  I had something else in mind and I love doing DIY so this is what I came up with.

That tank has been through a few people in this club.Itlooks like the one I sold this summer. I was going to paint and and rehab the stand also but never had the time. Looks good.

 

Yeah I think your right. I think I have done it justice.. I posted this project because I figured this tank hand ben around and people would enjoy see me give it new life.
Hope to get lights in this week and then work on sump.
Any suggestions on sump design for a 20good long?. I want to do insump skimmer with refuge.

Ok lights are in. I think I am happy with it, but if anyone has any suggestion I will listen and learn. Also I am new to MH so I a have a question. Do they hum a bit? Also the back and top to my Canopy are all open will this be ok for air to keep everything cool or should I just watch it and go from there? Lighting is two 150w MH centered over the two sides then to 36" Atanics and these are one in front and one in back.
I wish I would have taken pictures of the inside before putting back on tank, but I was just in the zone. I do some of my finest work when its just zone in and forget everything else. Love DIY and on to Sump...

Ok here is a good start on my sump. First look, I will add more later about it. I just leak tested it tonight.

I am adding a sock collector to my sump, but had to add a bit to the end because my water level on the drain side is high. I am thinking on changing this, but not sure yet. I am thinking if I don't give it some room that it will not work correctly. I don't know if I maybe be over thinking it. I put a plea in the Cedar Rapids/Iowa City area for some local help to come over and help me out. I am hoping my full basement bar and Theater room is another incentive to come over and chat about this.  Here is what it looks like. Any comments?

 

That's the plan, but I am thinking its too high. I am unsure where the thing is suppose to be so that is what I came up for now. Can the sock be submerged? I will have live rock in with Skimmer so I may do away with sock. I can't find anything online about where it needs to be placed.

 

I wouldn't do that because those things fill up/clog and overflow within a few days = mess all over your floor. Trust me, I've been there done that! :/

 

Mine is half submerged, but it can no longer spill out of the tank. They work better not submerged, but with space, I have no choice.

 

I started to think about that as i was building the box. I think maybe I should lower my first baffle and then just put the sock on the rim with the top of the box. That will suck, because I have it so nicely sealed in but thats ok I guess. I am figuring things out as I go along. Its just I could find nothing on where to place these things. Also will I need one with a Refug?

 

where did u get your acrylic at

 

I have two all most full sheets of 1/4 from work from a Machine that was torn down. We used it for Guarding.

Ok this is what I came up with...
I cut the Drain side baffle down 2" and took the box part off the Sock holder. I think this will work much better. In a few pictures there is a box around Skimmer, but I didn't put that in. I am going to put live rock here and I put the one side of the sock box there to kind of play around with that are and see if I could inclose it off.

Here it is from back side put in Cabinet. There is only one bad thing I did.lol Can you spot it or at least that I care about.



I think this design will do well.
