I love the blue spotted jawfish I think its my most favorite saltwater fish and I am getting a little 6g pico and I was thinking of featuring one in the 6g pico! But I've read several places that its minimum tank size is 30 gallons I was wondering if it would be okay if I had the jawfish in the pico?  He will be the only fish in it along with live sand and a few pieces of live rock?  and maybe a few anthelia or some very simply coral. Any advice is much appreciated! I just think it would be so awesome to have him in there! Thanks!

well its on sale at live aquaria for 79.99 right now. I love the look of this fish. Be sure if you get a 6 galloon pico its not an open top, this fish is a jumper. As long as the sand is deep and you have live rock , so he can burrow and hide i say give it a try. Good luck to you.

Natasha, it's pretty easy to make a net with bird netting and some screen framing. I have some bird netting left over from my project that you are free to have. Depending on how pickup works for those pumps I can give it to the appropriate person. You are just going to need some spline and a 'bar' of screen frame. Total should cost you around $5. Let me know if you want that and I will dig it out of my pile of fish stuff /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default//emoticons/smile.gif

what do you guys think about the fish to tank ratio though? you think it'll be enough room for the little guy? he will be the only fish in there he will have enough sand and rock too to perch we also might be putting some corals like anthelia or xenia in there and dont worry i'll be sure it doesnt grow all over lol thanks guys for your input!

From what I have seen, the spend most of their time "bobbing" in an out of their hole. With a proper sandbed I wouldn't THINK it to be a problem. I know of people that have successfully kept them in a nano tank, but not one QUITE as small as yours. If he ends up being too big, I might actually be interested in him. Was thinking of adding a a single fish aside my two clowns in the 29, and these guys seem like they would fit the bill. /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default//emoticons/smile.gif

They do seem to spend their time bobbing in and out of their hole, but ours would switch holes periodically. It would also swim around occasionally. It had 3 main holes setup in various areas around the tank and would switch frequently. Unfortunately ours decided to jump out of the one small crack at the back and go carpet surfing. They're awesome fish, very fun to watch and quirky.

Definitely make sure you have a cover for your tank. Check out BRS TV and BulkReefSupply.com they have a step by step instructional video that shows you how to make a cover. Was really easy to do and cheap, wish we would have done that before we lost our blue spot!

If you end up with a large jawfish, i think it will be cramped. If you order one, perhaps you could request a small one. I would also use barnacles instead of live rock. I think it requires at least a 4-6 inch sand bed, is there enough room in the tank for that?
