2019 Activities - Des Moines/Ames region

One big take-away from the meeting was that we really want to focus this year on increasing our activities/events in the various regions. We've set a goal that each region will have at least 3 local meetings/events (Not counting Spring or Fall Fest). That may not sound like alot, but considering that several regions had no events in 2018 (including our region) - it would be a big step forward.

So who wants to get together for a planning discussion on what we want to do this year in our region. There are alot of ideas out there. Some include: DIY food, trip to Central campus, tank tour, fragging demo, discussion for beginners, potluck/barbecue..... We don't have to limit ourselves to just 3 events - that's just the starting point.

Let's do this sooner than later. Would 2 weeks from yesterday (Feb 23) work for people???

Thanks to Maureen (@Maureen ), Paul (@pwfish ), and Clay (@Reef Medic Clay ) who were able to make it this afternoon to help plan our calendar for the Des Moines/Ames region. We have a number of activities/meetings being planned. We hope you will be able to join us! Here's our tentative schedule:

March 17th - Spring Fest - Des Moines
April 6th - DIY Food - hosted by Dave Roth @Dave
May - Tour of Central Campus Marine Biology dept. I will be contacting them on Monday to set the date.
June 8th - Plumbing demo - hosted by Clay - he may be reaching out to all you plumbing wizards for input/assistance!
July 20th - BBQ - Get to know your fellow reefers - location to be determined
August open - we could consider another trip to the Omaha Zoo if there was enough interest
Sept - Road trip to Omaha for Nebraska Aquatics annual bash
Oct - Fall Fest
Nov 2nd - Fragging demo - hosted by Paul
Dec - Nothing planned - holidays
January 2020 - Holiday party

We don't have a tank tour scheduled - it could be another option for August if there was interest - otherwise - throughout the year you will have a chance to tanks at the homes of Dave Roth, Clay Wallerstedt, and Paul Horn

A separate thread will be posted soon to start the planning process for the DIY food event.
