Well water thoughts

I live in the country and am using well water.  My well is a very deep well but my water is testing extremely high on a TDS meter.  1200 to exact, this obvously means my RO filters go quickly.  Anyone else have a well and deal with these types of issues?  Between water changes and just adding in evaporated water I am going through alot of RO which means I will be lucky if my filters last a month!  Obviously this is going to get ridiculous if I don't figure something different out.  Also, how high do you let your water PPMS get before changing your filters?
    Thanks,

    Hey,

I live on a well too.

I usually change my filters every 8 months or so. I have an inline TDS meter & when it starts climbing I swap them out

Craig, what level does it mean "when it starts climbing. Mine is already after only a month at about 9PPMs. What does your well water test before the RO?

It is usually 10-20 after the RO, zero coming out of the DI cartridge. If it gets over 5 coming out of the DI cartridge I am getting new filters.

You must have some ungodly clean water, or a prefilter then.

Craig what is your water before you run it through the RO. Just straight out of the well?

It has been a couple of years since I tested it, but I want to say it was 900 or so.

The county test came back perfect though as far as drinking safety. It did have alot of nitrates, Iron, and so on in it. (typical of Iowa farm land)

Try emailing Air Water Ice. Maybe they have a solution for your problem.

I have an RO system. I just am frustrated at the prospect of changing my filters once a month. Obvously that will get very expensive

Did you really mean 22? Most city water is not anywhere near that low and my county water is 220. I am thinking typo and you meant 220.

Try picking up some of the softener cartridges from Air Water and Ice. I put 2 of them in when I still lived at home and the water was brutal but after installing them I have had good luck.
