Tang conflicts?

    Thinking of getting a 6" naso tang in the same tank as an 8" Vlamingi. Tank is a 200g. They both are listed on LA as aggressive towards other tangs.


    Thoughts?

    I was told when I bought my Lieutenant, Hippo and Sailfin that because they were all about the same size and they were different colors that they should be alright. I have them in a 125 and now about 3 months later they are getting aggressive towards each other. Just my experience.

    I don't see the Hippo causing problems, just the other two. They might be okay though in a 200g. Especially if there are other fish in there... Maybe Matt can chime in? I think he has several different tangs together in one of his large tanks :0)

    I think you will be fine. IME Nasos are.about the least aggressive of the tangs.

    I should also note that the owner of this tank already has a Yellow Tang and wants a Blue Tang as well.

    my big naso gets along well with the little saifin and yellow tangs and I anm going to add a big regal blue when I get my 220 up.

    I have probably close to a 10-12" Vlamingi that I added with a 6" or so blonde naso and there wasn't the slightest sign of aggression between them. Tank is a 250 deep dimension. The naso or vlamingi have never been aggressive to any of the other tangs either that I have seen.

    Ok now so if we add a Blonde Naso into the mix we would have:

    Yellow Tang (3-4")
    Vlamingi Tang (7"+)
    Naso Tang (6.5")
    Blue Tang (4" or larger)
    Blonde Naso Tang (5")

    I think that would be it for tangs. The rest would be wrasses, anthias, and a pair each oscellaris clowns & black & white clowns.

    Then a smattering of smaller, colorful, community friendly fish.

    How does that sound for a stock list? Same tank - 200g (Taki)

    i may be mistaken but a blonde naso and a regular naso sound like disaster.

    sounds like the body shaped similarity of the 2 nasos would be the biggest issue, but size of tank is a factor as well. But with 4 big tangs in a 200 does that pretty much hit or exceed the limit?

    You have several tangs in there that get very, very large. and they grow quite fast too. I would say its too much. But then again I have more than that- which I also think is too many- . I will probably be looking to re-home some of my big boys here though. My 5ft 250 gallon just isn't enough for them IMO.

    I don't have them in there yet...just looking at a stock list. Right now it's just the Vlamingi and Yellow. The owner wants more colorful fish so I'm trying to appease that without going overboard. He saw the Naso and wants that along with the Blue tang. I think leaving the Blonde out would make it better. He has not considered that fish yet - I just found one and if I worked I'm sure he would love it. But it sounds like too much.

    I have never tried 2 Naso tangs but have heard it is not a good idea and a blonde Naso + a Naso = 2 Naso's. We have an 8" Naso and 5" blue tang and they are doing well so far (it has only been a week). Several years ago in a 180 we had 3 tangs (Naso, yellow, mimic/chocolate) and 3 triggers (Niger, pink tail & blue jaw) and never had any aggression issues.

    There are currently 3 Naso's co-habitating in the pond (1800g) at the Ark up here... all are fat and healthy (despite cyano in the pond). I'm not a huge advocate of this though unless it's a super large system with plenty of swim room.

    I would go with the blonde naso over the regular naso personally because I think they are a little more colorful and prettier fish. What about a purple tang? I think they are gorgeous and they don't get nearly as big as some of the others on the list. Powder brown or powder blue tang are another one that IMO are very beautiful and won't get huge like a naso. I think you have plenty of tank to add several more tangs, and there are a ton of options of all different colors and body styles. I just wouldn't go for any more that get in the 10" + especially none that get 1ft plus.
    If this is a fish only tank triggers are awesome fish with typically an interesting personality, but if you are adding some real small fish you might have issues. I had a niger that was getting some size, and aggression to it and I believe it got a couple of my real small wrasses.

    My current tang list is
    Big fat vlamingi
    Big fat regal blue
    2x yellow
    2x purple
    powder brown
    blonde naso
    sailfin
    atlantic blue

    Ideally I would find a nice new 8' home for the vlamangi and regal as they are hogs, and need more room than I have right now.

    I never saw any aggression out of my blue or yellows, but my sohal's where both nasty to everything.

    10" naso, 8" blonde naso, 6" purple, yellow belly hippo, luitenant, 3" clown and tomini. All in my 180 gallon loving life. I think youll be fine.

    Only ones that went in together were the luitenant and tomini. Big naso was in first. When i put blondie in naso gave him a beatdown but after a few days of initiation theyre best friends. Always by each others side! Makes me happy haha.
