just wondering if you can keep clams under t5 lights only or do you need metal halids

You can keep them under T5s, the only time I would worry is if you are keeping them under PC lighting.

i am pretty sure maxima clams would do the best under t 5s...clamsdirect.com has alot of sool stuff and if you do get one and it is lower in the tank you can always move it higher close to the lights...do you know how watts per gallon you have right now

i dont have the tank set up yet.  just trying to decide between t-5 and halide.  the tank will be a 75 gal  so its either 8 48" t-5  or 2 250 watt hqi

I've read claims that 8X54 watt t5ho with individual reflectors done correctly will equal the output of two 400 watt mh's. Although I sometimes find that hard to believe, I've had good SPS growth with mine. You won't get the nice shimmer effect with t5ho, but you will get savings in your electrical bill. It is also nice to be able mix several different bulbs and stagger the photoperiods with timers.
