So I was poking around reefcentral, and as occasionally with reefcentral I got a little worried about what i'm using and wanted to know what you all used for power strips or surge protectors for your fish tank stuff. Is there a good item that's local (i.e. local hardware store) to use?

American DJ power strip and my APEX EB8s.

I think just as important as what stuff is plugged into is how its plugged into it. Keep power strips up off the floor and away from where they could come in direct contact with water. Keep them where they won't get exposed to salt spray or creep. Have drip loops in you wires. Its also not a bad idea to periodically check all the outlets and cords for corrosion. Corrosion could lead to shorts that could lead to fire. Water, especially salt water and electricity do not mix.

Thank you. I didn't know about the APEX EB8's. Sounds like a very good investment to save up for!

You need the APEX controller for the EB8s. They are switchable outlets and require a "brain" to go with them.
