would sun tubes work in iowa?

 

Yes, they would work very well. Not sure if it would be able to supply 100% of the light needed for a full reef, especially in the winter, but the natural sunlight does wonders to coral & even your fish.

Please do it, and share the results!

Definitely need supplemental lighting to get the coloration that we all strive for, but it would be an awesome upgrade. I've considered doing it.

 

I install them all the time ... Velux are the best

 

do they have to be installed on the room or can them come out of the side of the wall or window?

in order for them to capture the sun correctly they would need to be on the roof, plus as the seasons change and the sun moves across the sky you would want it as high as possible.. I would use the rigid tubing for this application not the flex duct, the rigid tubing is much brighter
