Sump Too small?

So im wanting to get this 120 goin.... i gave a 20 long laying around. Can i use it? At least til something bigger comes a long?

 

I think you will find it will be a good fit under your 120. Leaving plenty of room under your stand to work and for other equipment.

 

So u think itll be enough? I like the idea of it not taking the whole underside...

 

I think so. I know a few people that use a 20 long under their 120.

 

I'm not sure there's really a sump that's "too small". It's really just a place to put the "uglies" that support a stable system. Of course the higher the total water volume the better but every system is unique. For a simple system with compact hardware a smaller sump is just fine.

 

Awesome! Mine has 3 holes drilled in it. Prolly cheaper to find an undrilled 20l

 

As long as it can hold all your equipment you are looking at putting in it and in the event of a power outage that it is big enough to hold all of the water from a back siphon you should be good to go.

 

I have a 20 long under my 75 and wish I could have something bigger.

 

Idt that a 20 is big enough for running your skimmer and supporting back siphon when power goes out. I would at least do a 29 tall. Im using one on my quarantine and its jusy enough.

 

I cant do anything over 16" tall. Too hard to get into taller than that

 

Yeah that will work just fine, I have a 10 gallon under my 60Cube cuz it was the only thing I could fit. I have my skimmer, return pump, biopellet reactor, uv sterilizer, and a carbon reactor. I don't have alot of room to move things around but it's been running just fine for 2 years. If i had the room I would go bigger to increase the total water volume. I've thouhght about setting up a remote sump in the basement, i will probably go with a 75 or bigger if I end up doing it. Good luck man!
