spring fest will be on sat march 24th from noon-5pm
held at the Elwell family food center in the state fair gounds located on the east side of Des Moines. http://www.iowastatefairgrounds.org/facilities/buildings/family-food-center/
Gary Parr will be one of the speakers
Gary has been keeping aquariums for most of his life and has kept reef aquariums for the past 16 years. His current tanks are a 65-gal. LPS reef and a 40 breeder in which he's growing azooxanthellate corals. Gary’s other hobby is photography. He specializes in macro photography and currently spends most of his camera time photographing coral and marine fish. You can see Gary’s coral and marine fish photos in the Reefs and Animals sections of his website, www.gparr.com. He also co-hosts, with Christine Williams, the Reef Threads podcasts, weekly discussions about the reef-aquarium hobby. The podcasts are found at www.reefthreads.com. You can contact Gary at gparr@reefthreads.com.
    his topic will be:
Azooxanthellate Corals Through a Rookie’s Eyes
Keeping azooxanthellate corals presents the ultimate challenge: Can you dump food into your tank around the clock and maintain pristine water? These corals are also demanding of time and effort and are not for beginners. But success is very rewarding. My first year of keeping an azooxanthellate-coral reef met with much more success than failure, but the learning curve was steep. The presentation will help those interested in this aspect of the hobby decide what corals to keep, how to feed, and what’s required to maintain water quality with all of that food passing through the system.
the other speaker is still to be determind

Why are members "not" getting the admission discount? I thought that the discount was just one of the many perks for members?!

We changed that after last years spring fest. It is now $10 across the board but members get 10 free raffle tickets instead of 5 with the option to buy the remainder of the sheet of 25 for an additional $10

When you say the 'remainder of the sheet of 25' does that mean 15 or 25 additional tickets?

Kids are still free right? Are the wives still free to get in like fall fest? It left me with more money to buy stuff I'll tell you that. Plus we are dragging many along! LOL

Kids are free. As far as the other goes that would be up too the current people running the show but, I did catch some heat for that.

It was just strange to have it stated that way so I wanted it clarified.  Thank you for clarifying.

Spouses have always paid in the past.  Kids have always been free.
Reason was to make it fair accross the board.  What if it is just a girlfriend, how about a room mate?  Or if someone wanted to bring along a parent.  What if you have two wives or husbands?  And so on.
It was always easier to charge for everyone so there is no hard feelings if a spouse got in, but not a parent, gf, or room mate.
Not to say it wont be different this year, but that was the reasoning for doing it that way in the past.

Coming from a frag seller, the admission charge for spouses is a good idea. It could be the deciding factor on whether they come along or not. If they don't come, I sell more. Ha ha.

Anyone have any corals that they would like to trade coral for coral let me know. Message me and let me know what corals you have to trade and i will send you a list of the corals i have to trade. Then we can figure out a fair trade. I am a big fan of zoanthids if you couldn't tell by my name but like alot of corals. Thanks!
