shimmer?

    what is suppossed to shimmer?is it when you look up at the top of your aquarium water through the tank and it looks like chrome?

    I think you might be talking about the light shimmer. Thats when the light shines through the water and shimmers on the rock and sand.

    Yes proteins will make a slick on top of the water if you don't have a skimmer.

    no i dont have anything floating,i have dual overflows and a wp40 stiring up the top pretty good.in fact i have nothing in the tank its just cycling now.i was just wondering what people mean by the shimmer.i do see how it looks like light moves around on my rocks from the aggitated water surface,is that it?

    Yes that is it.
    Its especially noticeable with single point light sources. LEDs and metal halides. T5s and PCs won't really get you that shimmer.
