shallow or deep?

Just want some thoughts on a shallow sand bed or deep. The problem im having is algae blooms the sand now is only couple inches this tank houses two tangs and a snowflake eel
thet are pretty messy and are always disturbing the sand. is this why the blooms are happening? All water perameters are good i use ro/di water for changes and topoffs. This is driving me crazy. thanks for any input that you may have.

 

Do a shallow sand bed and vacuum it when you do water changes to get rid of detritus.

 

have you considered some nass snails? from my experiance they do a terrific job keeping my sand clean.

 

My first two tanks had sand in them, now I run bare bottom in my 125 and I love it. I would never go back to sand again unless it was a thin layer of course sand. I had the same problem with the sugar sand getting kicked up by fish and water flow. I had a midas blenny that would take up a mouthful of sand and spit it over my corals!

 

I prefer fine crushed coral. Easy to vac and dosen't get moved around much my my mp40's
