RBTA Split Question

Couldn't find my RBTA where it normally sits and figured the worst.  Then I found 2 much smaller RBTA's.  The siblings seem to be healing and getting along fine.  Do I need to wait until after they've healed to feed them or can I go ahead and give them food now?

 

It will take 2-3 days for their stomachs to heal back up.

I have a different perspective on it.... My tri-color BTA is splitting as we speak. All BTA's begin their split through their mouths' (the mouth elongates days before starting the split). (If the split begins at a place other than the mouth, there is something else going on with the BTA. If you see what looks like noodles, not good.) It will take about a week before the new mouth forms. Some BTA's will move(hide) during the process of spliting and if that is the case with your's-don't worry (when they are healed, they will come out in search for food). After the mouth appears, you can try to feed it a "small" piece of silverside or a little mysis shrimp. If it doesn't eat the day you try it, try again the next day, et cetera... Although uncommon, there are BTA's that have 2 mouths and they too will split through their mouths. Good luck and Congrats! PS... Overfeeding often times causes a BTA to split ;-0) Personally, I prefer to overfeed versus underfeed.

if you feed nems faster then they can digest the food then the food starts to rot inside them and it will cause an infection inside the nem and it will die the only exception to this is hadonni carpet they will eat non stop and if it starts to rot in them they will reguritate the food looks like a big poo ball and it is nasty and smells like no other mine did it after it ate a yellow tang

 

They seem to be healing nicely. I'll wait a couple of more days and see how they do. Thanks for all the input!

 

That's news to me; I've never heard of such a thing.  A tang is really big and I don't know of anyone who feeds their BTA's more than a silverside at one feeding.  I've always fed according to their size. When they are small, I feed them daily (not a whole silverside, just a small peice /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/smile.gif) Not saying that you're wrong Matt, I've just never heard/read that nor experienced it.  They will expel their waste like a fish, just through their mouths'/DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/biggrin.gif

 

They talk about it on RC in nem and clownfish threads all the time
