I recently purchased a decent sized purple flower pot coral from SOM and am super exited about it, yet a little nervous. I have been doing tons of reading and talked to Hung regarding care and increased hardiness of the species, especially the purple.

Curious to see who out there has had success with goniopora long term, and also possibly anyone that would share any failure with the species.

    lots of failures.

Key is constant feeding of coral frenzy or goniopower.

I have some goniopower on the way. Right now I feed my tank zoplan, seachem phyto and zoo plankton, a little kent micorvert and one other type of liquid phyto. I use to feed twice a week, but now am feeding lightly every day with some of my new additions.

The flower pot is placed high in the tank with decent indirect and intermittent flow.

We have had a purple goni for 9 months and so far it is still doing great. Feed the tank 3x weekly with coral frenzy or New Life Spectrum micro feeder.

I have a red goni with yellow center. Have had it for 3 years. It's about 2 1/2 ' under my T-5's. Gets medium flow. I feed a variety of small particle dry food as well as liquid. I feed it when the tentacles extend...a sign that it's ready to feed. I have used gonipower, I use some KZ and Fauna Marin, reef chili, reef roids, cyclop-eeze and others. I had 2 other gonis prior to this one so hopefully it will continue to thrive :0) Good luck with your purple! :0)

Thanks, Terri! These corals are really pretty to just sit and watch. In the short time I have had mine, I think it is really settling in quite well where it is placed in my tank. In addition to the goniopower on the way I ordered some new life spectrum reef micro-feeder last night as well. I have read about and watched some good feeding responses with this food.

I am dedicated to keeping this coral thriving!
