I am need of a pump for my 135G it will be in or by the 75G sump and has to pump 12' feet straight up. The little mag just can not quite handle it. There are so many choices, any suggestions would greatly welcome.
    Thanks!

Life Guard 1/2 hp, rated for 38 foot head max flow 3600 gph. Still almost $300. The gen x version is the pcx-20 and foster and smith has this one for $173 right now. Best of luck, Shaun

I've got a Blueline 70 pump(1750 gph, $250 new) I'm trying to sell to raise money for the UNI tank. Not sure if you're looking to save some money and buy a used one or not, but this thing looks brand new.

I have a reeflo pump, they are awesome. They operate very quitely. I also have a blueline 70HD. Both are great pumps although I must say the reeflo's seem very impressive. They have power to spare!!!!

Is the Gen-X PCX 40 big enough for my 135G with a 75G sump at 12 ft? I heard you neeed 10X water turnover an hour. To this end i thought I would need a pump that could do around 2000g an hour at 12 feet. I could be wrong.

Well, I got the Gen-x PCX 40from AJ. (I must say he was VERY accomdating going home for lunch to get it for me THANKS AJ!!) But it pumps barely more at 12' head then my little mag did. So, I think I am going to oreder the ReefFlo Barracuda. I REALLY hate to spend 400.00 on a pump but... I knew this was going to be expensive. Any one have any experince with these? I know Sean (sblomgren) said his reeFlo was awesome.
    Barracuda Specs
    •Amps/Watts: 2.0A/325W
    •Motor Speed: 1/4hp
    •1.5" FPT(in) and 1.5" FPT(out)
    •4300gph max flow
    •Max head 18'

Not sure what to say about that...that pump should have been giving you 900 GPH at 12 foot head.  I sent you a picture of the head loss curve chart via PM.
I run a Reeflo pump and really like it.  I'm also running a basement sump like you plan to.  That being said, there are two types of pumps...those rated for flow and those rated for pressure.  If you're running basement sump, you need to look at the pressure rated pumps.  If your not going to have as much head pressure, then you can go with a flow rated pump.  Also remember, you don't need your return pump to give you all of your water turnover for your tank.  That's why most people supplement with powerheads.  I'm only running at 5x sump to display turnover for my tank.  The Barracuda and the Hammerhead look to be within $20 of each other, but the Barracuda is not pressure rated and the Hammerhead is.  For your application, the Hammerhead provides substantially more flow for the $$.  Look closely at the head loss curve chart when making your decision.
    I hope this is helpful.

Thanks AJ. I did some more looking and for 20 more I am going with the Hammerhead. I also have 2 korilla 4s and a nano, so hopefully all will be fine. When figuring turnover do I include my sump volume as well?
Think I will donate the Gen-X to our local school, central campus, aquarium scinces class. I am sure they will like it.
Again thanks for all your help AJ, I will see you at fallfest and let you know how it all goes.
