with out thinking and getting all excited i bought a porcupine puffer. Are they reef safe? Right now i just have 2 clowns and a elerald crab as the living creatures in my tank. Do they eat clown fish?

    How big is it?

Your emerald crab is in danger, for sure.

They need a meaty diet, with some shellfish mixed in to keep their teeth wore down.

If not fed enough, he may take a bite out of your clowns

wow that is a small one.

Once or twice a day. Fresh unshelled shrimp work really good for them, smaller the better.

My Puffer is 8" long he is in my reef tank has never bothered any other fish he loves flake food and pellets. (raw shrimp is favorite) Craig is right though they prob should not be kept in reef tank. I got him 1.5 inches 3 years ago and feed him regularly. He has never bothered any corals.

I just got a spiney boxfish and hasn't messed with any other fish, corals, or inverts yet. the only thing i could get him to eat so far is bloodworms. I'm going to try shrimp next.

The funny thing is I thought that puffers were notorious for eating Anenome's but mine is scared of it like a baby. He is a hog when it is feeding time but stays away from my bubble tip Anem. His tail has touched the Anenome before and then he swims as fast as he can away from it. Kinda funny. Personally the coolest fish I have seen. ( MR Puff) as my kids call him.

Not really part of having a fish tank bro, just need to be a responsible "parent" when it comes to your fishes health and well being. Ask ask ask and ask some more questions, so you don't have to experience this again. Patients is key, brother

My son has one in his reef tank. All thats in there is snails, leopard wrasse, and a yellow damsel. He has had it for a couple months now and is his favorite fish. Feed ghost shrimp about once a week. Only problem I've found is with his food intake the phosphates are going crazy. Have a reactor I bought from acc but haven't hooked it up yet as I know that will work and we are expecting the new carbon pro mix from blue line in next week and figured give that a whirl

Why is that Nick? Rinsing the food before hand? Probably a dumb question lol... I'm curious as to know why tho, have you pinpointed the probl?

Im thinking he over feeds and I'm sure the waste from feeding ghost shrimp isn't helping.

    congrats on the puffer!
but try to break this habit of excited buying. It will safe you from a lot of headaches.
The longer you wait for something, the more you appreciate it when you get it,because anything worth having is definitely worth waiting for.[/i]

If you find that new "must have" Go home, research AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE. See if it will work with you current setup, then double check it will work with path you plan to take your setup for the future.
If your worried about it not being there when you go back, maybe ask if they will QT or just hold the fish for you while you think it over.
