So I'm beginning the workings on the plumbing setup for a 75gallon with a 40br sump. I've been seeing that two returns, instead of one, seem to be very common and so I've been doodling with paint to try and put something together. Couple of warnings: It's not to scale, and the circles are unions. Going for a goal of about 10x turnover in the tank.

I've got an algae scrubber plumbed into my drain as well. I would reccomend a T fitting with a valve above the scrubber so you could adjust the flow. It also makes it easier to clean the screen as you don't have to shut down the whole system, just divert the water away from the scrubber.

Couple things to think about. I would put a valve in the return line after your pump. If your pump is pushing more water than the overflow can handle you'll want to be able to turn it down. Are there going to be divisions in the sump and bubble traps? Lastly what kind of algae scrubber are you running? If you hit 10 time turnover that would be roughly 750gph going through the algae scrubber. That seem like an awful lot.

+1 on the T-fitting and valve for the algae scrubber, it is always better to be able to adjust the flow.

Also I would recommend putting a partition between the return pump and everything else. This will help keep a more consistent water level on the overflow side for equipment like your skimmer, probes etc.

Thanks guys! I have -0- plumbing experience and I want to make sure I put together something that will last! Keep it coming!

EDIT: Question. I current run jsut a 20T on a sump for a 40br. It doesn't have any partitions and I don't seem to have an issue with bubbles or an inconsistant water level. Is this something that happens when there is a stronger pump? OR should I be fine.

Are u gonna use an ato? If not u will definitely want a baffle or two. Otherwise you will have to mess with your skimmer on a daily basis with the water never bein the same level. You saw how i did my sump if you want a few pics or any ideas you can check it out again. Simple and works great. Also id add an eggcrate wall before your pump. Keeps chaeto snails fish etc from getting sucked up.
