How close to the rated size of a reactor do you want for your tank? Say you have a 46gal  but are moving up to a 120 with a 40gal sump. Buy one that will work with 150gal or go bigger? Any input would be great. Thanks Eric

It's all really going to depend on how much you feed and what the bioload is like. You want to make it so that you only have to change out the GFO as frequently as conveniently possible. That is, if you go through 500mgs of GFO every 2 weeks but you don't want to do it but once a month, then you're going to need a chamber that can house 1000mgs + space needed for tumbling. You wanna tumble GFO because it will compact and resist flow and essentially be useless otherwise, at the same time, if you don't have much extra space for tumbling you may eject gfo granules out the top of the thing. That being said, the smaller gfo reactor worked great for me on my 120 +40BR +30gal sump, although, at this point I have moved to biopellets (and added more tanks on my system). Before I was only needing to change the GFO once every 6 weeks or so. I would look at the BRS calculator too to give you some idea of how much media you will go through.

Thanks for the info. I will check out brs and see what comes up.

I'm running biopellets, but still find the need to run GFO.  I've given it a long time to settle in and make sure that the biopellets were properly colonized, but the biopellets are just not taking care of all of it for me.  I'm planning to set my BRS GFO reactor up soon.
And speaking of BRS GFO, make sure that you select the correct granule size for the application.  IMO, the HC is the best option if you use one of their reactors.  It gives you the most flexibility and it's the hardest...reducing the results of any grinding of GFO you may have going on.

I was looking at two little fishes. The 150 does it mater a hole lot?
