I am going to be at MACNA Weds-Sunday and will have to pay parking at the Marriott at $16 per night, my wife is arriving on Friday in a second car...I am cheap and would like to find parking for the second car at less than $16 per night.... $32 per night makes the conference sort of expensive...any suggestions.
    Thanks

You could always cancel your rooms at the Marriott and move to one of the other area hotels (like the Quality Inn) that have free parking.

    That's your best bet IMO.

Yea Quality Inn is only a few bucks a night more and there's quite a few perks (like free parking) that make it totally worth it...

Isn't there a public parking garage right beside the Marriott? I believe the public parking garages are free on the weekends, aren't they?

That's possible too.   I don't know enough about down town Des Moines to say for sure...

does anyone know about parking at Hy-Vee hall? I grew up in the area, but its been years since I've been downtown and have no clue where to park and what, if anything, I'll have to pay. The MACNA website gives no parking info except that a shuttle runs from the aiport, but I'm staying with family south of Des Moines and will drive in everyday.

We need some Des Moines people to chime in here.

Parking at Hy vee Hall is $7 per day. All the public garages (which there are many) are free on Sat & Sundays. I believe (not sure) metered parking is free after 5pm.

I am a Des Moines person and I work downtown...the only problem is that I haven't paid for parking in 5 years as I have a monthly reserved spot.
I posed them as questions but am pretty sure that the public ramps are free on the weekends (although this is going to change sometime soon).  Craig also mentioned metered spots.  I believe those are all free on the weekends as well.

Metered spots are free after 5 PM and on weekends unless they have changed recently (read in the past 2 years).  As to the second car.  If you don't need to drive it around just find a side street a few blocks from downtown that doesn't look shady and park it there until the weekend maybe.

You'll have to check when the meters are open during the week. Meters on streets leading into downtown are no parking from 7 to 9 AM (not sure about the time). Meters on streets heading out of downtown are generally no parking from 4 to 6 PM. Weekends are free. The garages are kind of a wild card. If there is an event at Wells Fargo Area or the Civic Center they generally charge to park.

Thanks for chiming in. I guess I'll bring some parking money and hope I don't have to use it.

There is also a skywalk system that connects most of the parking garages

    http://www.seedesmoines.com/get_around/skywalks.php

Click the "here" link and you get a PDF of the skywalk and parking ramp map

And parking garage rates (free on weekends is still the case)

Note that the 7th & Center Park & Ride is $6/day and 2-3 blocks from Hy-Vee hall. I'm pretty sure that you can park & walk /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default//emoticons/smile.gif

I appreciate all the information.....less money for parking means more money for Corals....

will it still cost $7 a day for volunteers to park at hyvee hall on wed and thur? Also do you have to repay to park  if you have to leave and come back?
