New DIY Nano Tank

I thought I would see what everyone thought of this new nano tank I set up. I got this Fluval Edge from Allen a couple weeks ago via a trade and thought I might just play around with it. It didn't have the stock hood or light, so I needed to figure something out. I ended up building a custom base and hood. For the lighting, I tore apart the old LED Nanocube hood I had for sale on here and built that into the hood. I was even able to keep the Nanocube switches and fan (run out the side).

One issue I ran into was I wanted the hood to sit somewhat close to the tank for optimal light and aesthetics. With it too close, there would be no way I could clean it. I ended up hinging the hood. This worked great for cleaning, but the rear supports couldn't hold the hood level. I bought some clear acrylic rods and built those into the hood to hold it level. I then painted the back and upper rim to hide any cords, supports, and filter tubing.

After a couple coats of stain and five coats of polyurethane, it had the look I was going for. What you can't see in the pic is that all of our doors and trim in our house are the same light finish. After playing around with building a decent aquascape inside the tank, I finally filled it up and am waiting on it to cycle now. I upgraded the heater and filter too. I'll probably use this tank as a holding tank for fresh frags I cut in the near future. After life settles down a bit (second child due any day), I may put a small Wartskin Angler in it.

Thanks everyone! Still need to play with the aquascaping a bit...not much room to do too much. As you can see, I added a spare WP10 that I had, and I put on an Elos Osmocontroller ATO system. I'm trying to keep a clean look but also have a complete system.

Kind of hard to see, but I redid the aquascaping today. It took quite a long time and a ton of pieces to make the arch...the small opening on the top doesn't leave much room to work with.
