MH ?

I bought some 400W Hamilton MH lights. They do not have a shield over the bulb like most I have see. Is this needed for any uv filter or is just to protect the bulb from water?

 

When I had MH, my Hamilton bulbs never had shields either. Couldn't help you with other brands tho, sorry.

the shield is only really needed for double ended bulbs. single end bulbs are already shielded. so no worries

Yeah, the mogul bulbs have a glass shield around them and don't need a glass panel like a double ended bulb. Didn't know hamilton made 400w single ended MHs though.

 

So as long as I use a Mogul (single ended bulb) which I am, I do not need a uv shield right?

 

This is not the one I have, mine is older but they do make these and even larger ones.
