Koralia or Vortec?

I know what the majority of people would recommend so please take the following into consideration.

I have several smaller powerheads producing movement in a 150 gallon. I also have a Panworld external pump that moves about 1700 gph. I am looking at 2 options for upgrading:

    1) Koralia Magnum 7s or Magnum 8s hooked up to the Smartwave controller that I already have.

    2) 2 Vortec MP40s.

I know how popular Vortecs are if money is not an issue. My dilemma is that I could save $300-$500 in going with the Magnums and use that money to buy coral /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/biggrin.gif I have not bought any new corals since my tank mishap and I am getting the itch to get my tank looking like it used to again. Decisions, decisions, what are your thoughts?

I would get the mp40 or even look at the tunze. You really do get what you pay for. I have vortechs and like them but i think next time i would go with tunze.

i was going to ask why tunze was not on the list.

Tunze was not on the list because I hadn't even considered them as an option, though I should. Fmsill, why would you go with Tunze over your vortechs?

Since it is a sizeable investment, I want to make sure that I don't regret the purchase. Here is a link to an article I found that is very informative on all three manufacturers pumps. Unfortunately, I am even more uncertain which pump I will go for. Check out the link, it is definately worth your time.

Vortechs for sure. Always had koralias but theyre junk i always end up buyin new ones every year. Could of jus bought vortechs n never changed pumps. I wont run anything but mps now. Almost no presence in the tank, no cords in tank, lots of modes and awesome flow. Looked at tunzes but they cost alot, didnt pump as much, look ugly in the tank imo, and have cords in tank again. Its a no brainer to me anymore. I say mp40s.

I agree with haveing the cord in the tank is a pain. I have both tunze and vortech and i really like the fact that you can angle the tunze to eliminate dead spots. Either way tunze and vortech are great pumps. I do have to say however vortech has awesome customer service.

I have Koralia with the wavemaker. They are controllable ones and love them. The cords are a pain though.

IMO, the Koralias seem to be pretty large and an eyesore compared to the other options. That may not matter to you though.

+ 1 MP40's. I have the 60 and 2-40's in one of my tanks. Great flow, flow options, no cords, unobtrusive, great customer service (phone and online), parts readily available, etc...........

If you have the money, I would go MP40. They are more expensive, but it sounds like you can afford to swing it (since you are considering them in the first place). Hands down the most versatile and cleanest looking pumps on the market. Ecotech is also really good in terms of warranties. Plenty of people have had repairs done outside of warranty for free or dirt cheap. Can't say that about every company out there. I have always bought mine used for 25%+ savings off retail as well.

This is the exact reason I am looking to add a tunze to my MP40s so they can be angled and adjusted wherever the flow is needed.

I have the Koralia wavemaker now as it was less expensive and I bought it used. Ive upgraded my lights to ais and have an awesome skimmer now. In time I would prob go with mp40 as I can only buy one thing at a time or my wife would shoot me.

    MP 40s all the way!
Once u own them u will kick urself for not buying them sooner! I personally think they r one of the best investment u can make.
stop playing with cords! I replaced two koralia #4 and two koralia #3 with one mp40.

How did you replace four with one? What size of tank?

I have a mp40 W ES I am going to sell. $300 and is yours if you decide to go that route.

But to answer your question, I would not even consider using korellias after owning vortechs,

So 1 would be enough for a 90?

It would be enough I feel if you stuck with LPS coral, I had 2 on my 90
