Is this good?

Looking at getting a refractometer.  I found a few on ebay.  Would like opinions on this one:

Being made of aluminum is a good thing. I don't know a whole lot about what makes one refractometer better than another other than the fact that some have parts that rust easy (like the pin that holds the plastic lens cover). I would imagine that if properly calibrated they should all read the same. Don't consider this an endorsement of this particular refractometer...I'm just trying to give you a few thoughts on refractometers in general.

I understand what you are saying. I just need something better than the plastic hydrometers you can get cheap. Mine is way off. Mine is readying that my SG is 1.026 when the refracto at Pet's Playhouse is reading 1.021. So it is off by .006 and I dont want to be loosing anything due to poor gravity measurements.

I have one of these and it works pretty good just as accurate as my more expensive refractometer. just don't buy one with a built in light there junk

 

We have the one from BRS. They are easy to read and work great. They do need to be re calibrated every now and then.

 

I have the VeeGee STX-3 and it's rock solid. The only time I ever needed to recalibrate it is when I screwed it up on my own. Other than that, it's held calibration perfectly. Low maintenance...but if I was buying new, I probably wouldn't pay the extra $$ just so that I didn't have to calibrate it as frequently...it's 2 or 3 times as much as the cheaper ones.
