Do you guys like this store? I've never been there before, how does it compare to Coralville Bay or Bronson's Fish store?

Sea of marvels has unique stuff. He stocks stuff most others don't. Be prepared to pay tho. Bit high compared to competitors. He quoted me $300 for a 4" maxima

You mean "$300, but for you I'll do $290"

I like Sea Of Marvels personally. Most of my fish purchased at the store and I believe I have been treated fairly. Mostly livestock but some coral, mostly small or medium sized colonies as opposed to frags. Some tanks and equipment.

As I mentioned, if you are coming from out of town (North Liberty) I would call first because the advertised hours are "flexible".

The owners name is Hung. (Keep it clean). A bit of an acquired taste so best to have an open mind. He does not write prices on his tanks so you have to ask and I get a feeling that if he likes you, you'll get the good deal. No idea if that's accurate. Does not sell frags, only small colonies. in summary of above, he's more set up for clients (maintenance) rather than retail.

In the end tho, if you'd looking for a blue spot jawfish (not so common fish) and want someone local, he's your best bet.

All prices are negotiable at SOM. Also, make sure to dip your corals--I'm pretty sure I got monti eating nudibranches from a $20 chip of his blue-polyped capricornis. It's a great place to stop by and check out nonetheless.

You have to hand it to him. He has been in business for 20+ years in a very very tough business.

He definitely plays favorites but I'm a favorite so I like him lol. I haven't bought much there for a while though. I do stop in to see the Sharks now and then on my daughters request.
