Looking to Buy HOB Skimmer

    Looking for a HOB skimmer that can run for 65 gal or less tank. Located in Cedar Rapids but I travel to Iowa City on weekends and Mondays for work. I will be heading up to the Cedar Falls/Dike area early next month and I can be patient if someone has the best deal up that way. Not looking to spend more than $125 depending on condition.

    Any particular reason you're going HOB? If you're setting up a new tank I would recommend drilling it and running a sump. Sounds like a daunting task to drill them, but it's really not. Gives you the extra water volume and a lot more room to hide the equipment and run more equipment.

    I have a double aquarium stand and my freshwater tank is occupying the lower spot, so I do not have the space for a sump now. Also, I am pretty leery about drilling tempered glass even though some say it can be done successfully.

    Drain freshwater tank and use for sump. Problem solved LOL.
    Just watch what you have directly under the skimmer. It will probably overflow at some point. I ran one on my first tank and learned that lesson real quick. Some may be designed where they don't dump the water on the floor, but mine sure wasn't.
    As for the tempered glass it can't be done successfully. I think those that think they have done it successfully aren't really drilling tempered glass.
