I just started cycling my 90g tank and I am researching fuge lights so I can get that going after the cycle. I know a lot of people use a 6500K flood lamp like the kind you can buy at Lowes for outdoor lighting. I wanted to get some more opinions though. What do you recommend for a fuge light and a fixture? I have a 20g High fuge with a deep sand bed plumbed off my return with a T. I plan to keep only cheato.

Also, when do I add the cheato after the cycle is done? I am running GFO in a BRS reactor at the recommended amount of GFO for my system. Will the GFO starve the cheato and do I need to wait until sufficient phosphate builds up tp add it?

I run a simple clamp on shop light with a 13w compact fluorescent (60 watt equivalent) over mine and have for years, works great for me and my cheato.
I've always waited until my tank was fully cycled before I added cheato.

I bought some panorama leds and have them over mine seem to work good

6500k cfl, x1 or 2 clamp on, i use 2 cfls in a homemade light box and get great growth of macros and chaeto. I think the chaeto will be ok to throw in if you already have it on hand waiting, it likes nutrients, if you dont already have it then wait til after the cycle. Chaeto is tough, i have some in my qt tank and it makes it thru medication treatments and high nutrient levels no problem, jmo.

Awesome. Thanks for the info all. The CFL's seem to be used a lot. Probably start with that. Cheap too which is nice for a change in this hobby!
