Danielle and I inherited a kilm and I was wondering if
anyone knows what sort of material I could use to make frag plugs or the plug
holders that look like rocks? I know that you can buy these things but I just
want to try and make some for our 90g.
    Thanks
    Will

I have actually made them with the "oystercrete" mix. Last valentines I bought my girl some of those ferrero rocher chocolates. I used the box as a mold and soaked them with the dry rock I made. Worked out well. Didn't use a kiln but of course there is more than one way to skin a cat!

    Wow,

A kiln would be awesome to make some stuff.

I think most people will use clay & then fire it? That is what makes ceramic?

I would be excited to see what kind of caves & rockwork you could make out of it.

I have 3 kilns. One is nearly 3' tall but as cheap as plugs and disc's are already it just doesn't seem worth my time to go through all the trouble. I guess it would be cool to make some ceramic rock that could hold plugs or whatever but my rocks would probably look like crap and totally unnatural. And then there's the problem of what is actually in the clay you use that is going to leech out and nuke everything....

Yeah, I'm also worried about what would leech out. I'm more interested in making rocks for holding plugs. I've seen ceramic frag rocks before and was wondering if anybody knew what clay was used. Thank you very much, Will
